The Flint Journal presents:

About the project

Journal of the 20th Century was a special, yearlong project of The Flint Journal in 1999, focusing on the Flint area’s journey through the past 10 decades, from the dawn of the automotive age to the brink of the new millennium.

The series in print consisted of monthly special sections in the Sunday newspaper, highlighting the news, trends and people of the Flint area in each decade. The project concluded in December with a look at the 1990s.

Coordinating the series were Michael J. Riha, Opinion editor; and Jeff Johnston, assistant local news editor for Sunday.

The online version of Journal of the 20th Century was developed and designed by Presentation Editor Michael Robb and designer Amanda Barnes.

Writers and contributors include: Tina Beirne, Ed Bradley, Betty Brenner, Kim Crawford, Kim Fisher, David V. Graham, Tom Gromak, Lisa Harvey-Wilson, Jeff Johnston, Ron Krueger, Kristy LeVasseur, Christofer Machniak, Brenda Brissette Mata, James M. Miller, Dan Nilsen, Wayne Pickvet, Doug Pullen, Jeff Rauschert, Edward L. Ronders, Rhonda Sanders, Richard Watkins and Mary Ann Chick Whiteside, new media manager.

Also contributing are The Flint Journal’s electronic imaging staff, Henry Hills, Sue Mayer and Kevin Yauch; and Flint Journal Library staff, Dave Larzelere, Lazarre Johnson, Alice Melton and Bonnie Raymond.
