Tension-induced creases give the illusion of movement to the newsprint threaded through rollers above the press units. The newsprint ‘web’ is configured to arrange the correct number of pages in the right order. From here, the unbroken strip of paper goes to the folder, where it is cut apart and folded to make the finished newspaper. Pressroom Supervisor Max Kuehling compares the folder to the engine of a car. ‘If you lose that, you don’t run,’ he said.
