A scale next to the ink-carrying pipes is used to weigh amounts of colors to be mixed in recipes for so-called spot color. Spot color is a single color of ink applied with a single pass through a press unit, as opposed to process color, which is created by overlaying different colors and amounts of ink as the paper passes through more than one unit. Process color is used in printing color photographs. Back
